| I've been working on a d20 Modern WWII campaign, and it's getting close to complete. It's kind of an Indiana Jones-esque campaign where you're an elite commando team in a race against the Nazis to find an ancient tome of unspeakable knowledge and possibly a dirty limerick or two.
The campaign is set in in catacombs underneath some imaginary city somewhere in the Middle East. You'll all be high level, fifteenth to be exact. This is a one-off adventure that will be pretty much straight action with very little story. Because of that it would probably be easier to play in person rather than online.
Right now you can choose between three broad archetypes: soldier, spy, and adventurer. It would be nice to get at least one of each in the group, but not necessary. Each archetype gets access to certain abilities and gear that the others don't.
Soldier This archetype represents typical elite commandos, who's primary benefit is firepower.
Soldiers have access to automatic weapons and grenades at character creation. Spies and adventurers can pick these up off of dead Nazis, but can't start play with them.
Soldiers have access to flack jackets.
Soldiers are the only ones that can take levels in the Soldier advanced class.
Adventurer This archetype can represent rough and tumble archaeologists and treasure hunters like Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, or bookworms like Father Vito Cornelius from The Fifth Element (if you go with the latter I suggest you take ranks in Mage or Acolyte, otherwise you'll probably get owned). This archetype's knowledge of ancient cultures and ruins can help keep the team from falling victim to traps (think Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade).
Adventurers have access to civilian weapons, such as sawn-off shotguns, elephant rifles, lever-action carbines, swords, whips, sharpened sporks, etc.
Adventurers have access to improvised armor in the form of leather jackets or heavy robes, and possibly archaic armor, such as chainmail.
I'm allowing characters to burn feats in order to get master crafted weapons, magical items, etc. Spies and soldiers can only spend one feat on this, but adventurers can do it as often as they like.
Adventurers have access to the Mage advanced class (roughly equivalent to Wizard) and the Acolyte advanced class (roughly equivalent to Cleric). Adventurers have access to the new occupations Cloistered and Aristocrat.
Adventurers should take at least a few levels in Smart or Dedicated, and put ranks into appropriate skills, such as Knowledge Arcane Lore, History, Theology, etc.
Spy The spy archetype represents agents of the OSS (predecessor of the CIA) and MI6. They have the ability to convincingly pass themselves off as Germans. Some of them also might be part of secret government psionics experiments.
Spies have access to Nazi uniforms and weapons at character creation. Soldiers and Adventurers can take these items off of dead Nazis, but don't have access to them in the beginning.
Spies have access to silencers for their pistols.
Spies can speak German convincingly. Soldiers and Adventurers can speak German, but their accents will give them away.
Spies have access to the Battle Mind, Telepath, and Infiltrator advanced classes.
Spies should take at least a few levels in either Charismatic or Dedicated, and put ranks into appropriate skills.
None of these rules are absolutely set in stone.
Your characters will not go up in level during the campaign, and you won't have much opportunity to regain lost hit points. Since this is an action campaign, there is a good chance that several of your characters will die along the way. I have a few replacement characters created that can join the party after your character dies, that way you can keep playing if you want to.
There is no wealth system in my campaign, you can select any appropriate gear you want. There are the normal rules for encumbrance, and I've come up with a rough points system for how much gear you can have ready-access to. | |

| It's sounding like I'll probably play a half-orc barbarian--ahem, I mean, soldier with a BAR. \m/ It'd be nice to have a Lara around so I might play an adventurer instead if there's a hole, but soldier's probably my first choice. | |

| So, it sounds like there'll be two spies, a soldier, and a crybaby. Cool, that should work. | |
